Topic: Black British Communities Beyond London (BBC 1Xtra Talks)
On Sunday, 18 October 2026, our founder, Jo Oluwo, joined Guvna B on BBC 1Xtra for a conversation about the experiences of Black British communities living outside London, the importance of Black History Month and the role of education in building greater understanding.
When presenter Guvna B asked what changes she would like to see in Kent, Jo highlighted education as the most important place to start.
"The biggest problem is education. If you don't educate, there is ignorance, and the only way to get past that is by educating children in schools. Schools also need to educate themselves. Black History Month and Black British history as a whole need to be taught in schools. That's where it should start, with education."
Jo's message reflects Black Core Kent's wider commitment to celebrating Black history and culture, creating opportunities for people to learn from one another and building stronger connections across the multicultural communities in Kent.
